Kefalonia is one of the larger Greek islands in the Ionian chain that runs down the west coast of Greece with Corfu and Lefkas to the north and Zante (Zakynthos) in the south. Characterized by sandy coves and dry rugged landscapes. Kefalonia's indented coastline is made up of limestone cliffs, bays, scenic beaches and delicious food. It still retains that feel of being untouched by mass tourism.

How to get to Kefalonia from Northern Greece:
If you are planning to travel from Northern Greece to Kefalonia, you have the option to take a ferry from Lefkada island. The reason this is possible is because Lefkada can be reached by car, bus, or taxi from mainland Greece. Once you reach Lefkada, you can easily board a ferry that will take you to Kefalonia.
Kefalonia Highlights:
Myrtos beach(near Assos peninsula) - In the northwest part of Kefalonia. Considered by many tourist magazines as one of the 50 best beaches in the world. Swimming and sunbathing are the activities that can take place here.
Explore the pictureque Assos peninsula and visit the unique village of Assos. You can wander around and have lunch at its waterside tavernas. Assos is a short distance from Myrtos beach.
Discover Fiskardo (at the northern tip of island). At cosmopolitan Fiscardo, wander around the beautiful landscape and the numerous yachts. Enjoy your coffee or cocktail at one of the seaside coffee shops or bars. Fiscardo is one of the prettiest villages in Kefalonia.
Visit the town of Sami - it is another picturesque village. It is close to many beautiful beaches.
Melissani cave-lake - passing the mountain of Enos you arrive at the Melissani Lake for a tour at the underground lake by a small boat.
Stop and stroll the picturesque village of Agia Efimia and have lunch at this small fishing village.
Argostoli - is the capital town and the main port of Kefalonia. It is the starting point for excursions on the island.
Start from the central square of Argostoli, walk to Lithostroto pedestrian mall street. Here you will find traditional products, souvenirs and plenty of coffee shops. Visit the orthodox churches and don’t miss the Clock Tower in Kambana Square (the Bell Tower), which offers magnificent panoramic views of the city.
Lassi - visit Katavothres and the Agioi Theodoroi Lighthouse. Enjoy your lunch or dinner at St George’s castle where you can admire the beautiful view of neighboring Zante from the top.

May, June, September and early-October you will experience good weather with pleasant temperatures that fall between 20 degrees Celsius (68°F) and 25 degrees Celsius (77°F).
July and August are the warmest months and excellent beach conditions.
Peak season and most crowded.
The months of December through early-March have a high chance of precipitation and cooler temperatures.
